On Being a Non-Perfectionist

I truly need pointers on how to be a perfectionist.

It was Sir Alex (Oooohh.... Sir Alex...) who first told me that I should learn to be more of a perfectionist. It sounded reasonable enough. But I guess I didn't have enough motivation to actually take it to heart and actually learn to become one. If I were a contestant in America's Next Top Model or American Idol and the judges told me that, I would have already been voted out the next episode, since I didn't consider their advice. As you may know, I work fast if I could. And I guess sometimes that results to semi-mediocre (in my opinion) work. I wish to become more efficient while still keeping my pace. I guess I just need more practice. I hate having to go over my work again. In an exam, I sometimes get lazy going over my answers again, thinking that I was in my right mind when answering it the first time around. I guess I forget that anyone can be a victim of carelessness, even for perfectionists.

Help.

Big Sis on a Friday Night

Last Friday I watched the Incredibles (great movie!) with a group of SMU (Singapore Management University) freshmen (read: 18 to 19 years old!). A few of them (actually only two) I've met in the UP Alumni thingie I attended a month or two ago. The rest I just met that evening. A couple of guys are actually cute! (Nannah, maybe Leeanne would be interested. wahahhahah!)

Well guessing game. Only one of us in the pic is not Filipino. I won't spill on what nationality since that might give it away. So who is it?

Hermione's Time Capsule

I wish I could have Hermione's time-turning gadget this Christmas. Imagine that? So I could spend all my time with all my family and friends. I can even turn back the time just to sleep!

Just a thought.

Rama 3 Bangkok

Finally, I'm able to post the pics of my last project. I don't know what was wrong when I first posted them. Anyways, a backgrounder. It is a competition project in Bangkok. It is mad eup of high-rise and low-rise residential unit towers, for upper class residents. It was a very exciting project for me. Although we only ahd two weeks to work on it and it needed major overtime work, I enjoyed designing (woohoo!) although I am not confident with my skills. Nicholas and Mun Kit were quite helpful though, revising some stuff, but still kept the integrity of my original design. Naks! Haha. Well it tunred out pretty okay though.

Here are the pics.

This is a view from Rama 3 River. You can see the low-rise towers I designed!

Then this is the four-bedroom units that I designed the elevation for. Wish it was colored though.

Then this is the two- and three-bedroom units that I designed from plan to elevation.

To Get TFC or Not

Aaahhh... I was really excited when I found out TFC was already coming to Singapore. Okay, I have to admit I first emailed ABS CBN inquiring why there wasn't TFC yet here and they replied that they were coordinatign with Starhub. So they emailed em this week, informing me that starting today there would already be TFC. Come on, I need my ASAP Mania and The Buzz! Ricky Lo's article is one of the first things I read in the morning. And that ain't enough!

So I did check the Starhub website today and TFC is so expensive! 15 dollars plus tax for one measly channel! It's more expensive than HBO or Star Movies. What the hell. 15 dollars could last me at least 5 meals in a month. It is almost equivalent to a month subscription of Home Cable in Manila.

But then again, it also just costs two trips to the cinema. I can go away with that. Hmmm.... it also just costs three overtimes, in a month which isn't so hard to do since I can just surf till eight.

I mean, I doubt I can ask Ingrid and Marnie to split it with me since I bet I would be the only one watching the Filipino channels (though Marnie is into local shows too, hehe. Maybe I can convince him...)

Oh well...

Decisions, decisions.

the o.c.!

Since I'm an o.c. fanatic (yep, I've changed my desktop wallpaper from tyler (of fight club) to an o.c. wallpaper, I've taken the Tickle test on who my o.c. crush is. I'm assuming it would just have been Seth, Ryan or Luke. SO here's the result.

Risha, your OC crush is Seth

Dorky? Maybe. Loveable? Totally! What's not to love about this cutie? A smarty like you looks beneath the surface, and that's why only a brainy hottie like Seth will do as your OC crush.Sensible and responsible, you've got a good head on your shoulders, and you use it. Maybe you've been called wise for your years. Many famous folks were ahead of their times in high school, and you'll probably be one of them. So keep doing things in your own unique style. You're well on your way to great things. And it might be even better if you have an equally-awesome crush to have fun with along the way!

Hehe, he's my fave anyway among the guys.

My Song

Since Les was talking about soundtracks of one's life. Here is mine. It is Bonnie McKee's Somebody. It is from the OST of Win A Date with Tad Hamilton. Haven't watched it. But the reviews say the OST is better than the movie. Well here it goes.

Somebody
I sit alone, a dark theater,
Watching the people arrive hand in hand, everybody but me.
Oh...
I stay behind, watching the credits roll by.
Roll, roll, roll right by me.
Well I know, I won't cry cause there is somebody, somebody,
Somebody waiting for me out in the rain.I won't cry, not tonight,
Cause there is somebody waiting for me.
Ohhhhh yeahhh.
I take a walk,
The streets are busy tonight,
And I'm searching for you,
Waiting to brush your shoulder.
When I'm alone,
I watch the faces roll by.
Roll, roll, roll right by me.
Well I know, I won't cry cause there is somebody, somebody,
Somebody waiting for me, out in the rain.
I won't cry, not tonight,
Cause there is somebody waiting for me.
How many words will go unspoken?
Ohh.
'Til I hear knocking on my door?
I need some talking the nights I spent heartbroken.
But tonight I know,I won't cry no more.
Ohhhh.
I lie awake.
I left the porch light on.
I hope it helps you to find your way.
Outside
I hear the thunder roll by.
Roll, roll, roll right by me.
I know,
I won't cry cause there is somebody, somebody,
Somebody waiting for me, out in the rain.
Not gonna cry tonight
No
Cause there is somebody waiting for me.
Not gonna cry tonight
No no no no no no no
Oh yeah
Oh ohhhh, not gonna cry,
Not tonight
Cause there is somebody waiting for me.
I stay behind watching the credits roll by.
Roll, roll, roll right by me.

I guess it's just like Amy Grant and Michael W. Smith's Somewhere, Somehow, which goes "Somewhere, far beyond today, I will find a way to find you, and somehow through the lonely night, I will leave a light in the dark..."

Well that's it, just wanted to share :D

A Weekend of Gift Vouchers, Christmas Trees and Former Colleagues

This weekend was pretty busy. More of doing errands, meeting friends, blah blah. Saturday I spent mostly for purchasing prizes for teh Family Day we'll be having on the third of December (in Malacca as well). I just bought gift vouchers (their term for gift certificates) from Takashimaya and Metro (two of the bigger department stores in Singapore. Takashimaya, in case you didn't know, is like our Rustan's). I had to pay for them with my own money first though (and this is hundreds of sing dollars so they better reimburse me soon...) but it is really fun shopping for someone else. Budgeting for someone else. Oh well.

Well going to the two malls -- Ngee Ann City and Paragon -- I was able to take pictures (even one with me on it as a friendly Singaporean dude took it for me) with their Christmas trees. Ngee Ann is known for its giant tree inside, while Paragon (the mall that houses Metro Departments Store and which I consider as the Podium of Singapore) just displayed a semi-giant tree outside. Will post the pics within this week. I was just too lazy last night to upload my pics.

I then went to Bras Basah Complex (Les, this is really close to Carlton, a couple of buildings behind) since they were having a book fair. I ended up buying a Terence Conran House Book (my mom bought an old, old version of it when she first got married, and I think it would be nice to get a new one). Anyways, I just got it for 9.90 sing so I think that was a bargain. I would have to bring it home by Christmas though since it's a bit bulky and I really have minimize the stuff I would have to bring home at the end of my contract.

So I then went to Bugis Junction (another mall) to canvass for minor prizes. I wasn't able to find any though. I saw Bianca Araneta though. I don't know if she's still tied up with MTV. (she was in the same batch of VJ applicants with Mo Twister, remember?) Or maybe a modelling stint. She still looks great despite her prominent chin. (Hahaha, I'm bitter!)

Around five, I felt like going to Chinatown. I never really visited the shops that open along Pagoda Street during the evenings. So there I went. I just got myself cute handbags which were just three for twn dollars, and my dinner which was just a giant chicken siopao. Crazy me, I decided to eat it while walking. And it was too warm to hold with my hand so I ate it with chopsticks. Hahahaha.

Sunday I met up with two former colleagues at Manosa. One was Mark, the one who studies at NUS, and Mercy, who just arrived Friday to work as an interior designer. We just walked back and forth Orchard. Just to orinet Mercy. For her to update us on what's happening at FMP. Sir Stan will be leaving by December. He's already allocated his work among four architects. Manosa will definitely not be the same without him. He was the spine of the firm. His OC-ness kept the firm organized. His being chismoso livened up lunch breaks int he pantry -- with his theoretical questions and ambush interviews.

Oh well.

Renaissance of my Blog

As you could obviously see, I've set up an initial layout for my blog. Sorry you have to bookmark a new link to read my ramblings (haha, and I'm assuming you have bookmarked my older one! :P)

But it does suck having to let go of my older blog. It has been with me for over five months now. But then again, a new start means I can maintain this for more than five months and who knows how many years.

Well hope I can count on you guys to continue reading on! Cheers!
